I had a problem with the launcher as well. When started it would inform me that it cannot patch the directory it was in because a process was running from that folder - specifically the Launcher itself. After taking a *deep breath* and digesting the idiocy of the message I tried running the repair tool. It asked to be updated as well and after the update told me the same thing as the launcher - it could not repair my installation because the folder had a running process - the Repair tool.
*Deep breath* again. After 1/2 an hour or so of forum browsing (not the official forums, because those were not functional) I had a small idea of my own and moved the entire Eve folder from D:\[Games]\Eve to D:\Eve and that seemed to do the trick.
*Deep breath* AGAIN. So... dear CCP devs... Windows supports chars like [ and ] in folder and file names. Any good reasons why the Eve tools don't? |

And another nice *deep breath*.
IS THERE ANY REASON WHY MY SETTINGS ARE GONE?
I know this is Eve and every couple of patches have to break something in the user settings but this is ridiculous.
Edit: And yes, I know how to get them back. The simple fact that *I* have to do it instead of the process being automated is stupid. |

Maybe, but the Edit still applies - if *I* have to spend effort to do something that should have been done by the system, then there was a failure somewhere. That's what I'm mad about. I have precious little time for playing Eve as it is and spending some of it trying to fix stuff that shouldn't happen is quite frustrating. |

Jaden Plymoth wrote: Yes its frustrating, but with new things come bugs. And CCP is doing everything they can to fix multiple problems that cropped up. Writing code is far more tedious than many of us come to realize and simple mistakes can be made and not caught until after release. Lay off the devs, they're doing what they can.
Heh... I'm a software developer myself and I know quite well how tedious and difficult is to write code. However, this kind of mistake should never make it pass QA. Stuff like special chars in the path of the installation or 'misplacing' the settings are things that should be checked for each and any release.
To be honest, this kind of 'mistake' would get people fired at the company I'm working for. I'm not saying this should happen here, but the fact those problems show up every patch or three is not normal either.

How about someone at QA remembers that patch day being plural might amount to Subscriptions being singular.
Got home to my main computer and having problems with the patch as well. Very 'nice'. |

Got home to my main computer and having problems with the patch as well. Very 'nice'. Or perhaps the players can remember that every MMO has had a bad patch here and there. Not to excuse CCP for failing to fix issues pointed out to them in testing, but really, threatening to quit makes you look like a whiny child. Stomping your feet and crying won't make them work any harder on the issues they're already working on.
No threatening to quit, I like this game way too much. But I do believe that others are not that attached. However, that doesn't make it less true - at some point you get fed up with endless frustration and you just go away. On the point with other MMOs having bad patches here and there - yeah *Here And There* not one out of two. I wouldn't mind getting finished patches with delays rather than half-done jobs on time.

how am i supposed to kill those processes and have the tools working at the same time? thats beyond my comprehension, restarting my computer doesnt fix that
Check to see if you have any chars in the folder path that are not a-z or 1-9. That did it for me. |
